School Excursions

The best part of childhood is going on exciting school excursions.

Wolston Farmhouse – Brisbane’s oldest surviving residential farmhouse – is a significant local historical site that invites visitors to reflect on the past and its relationship to the present. In Wolston’s curriculum-driven Education Program, students take part in a drama immersion program designed to transport them back to nineteenth-century Queensland pastoral life and consider the impact that changes in technology, domesticity, and society have had on people’s lives.

Our Education Program engages with the past through hands-on experiential learning, immersing students in the day-to-day domestic life of the nineteenth century.

The program is best suited for Years 1 and 2 but is easily adapted to suit other year levels, as well as mixed-year level groups. Students will be guided through the experience by our trained staff and volunteers, with teacher/parent support.

Programs start from $15.00 per student.

This education program will engage students and create an unforgettable experience while exploring a rural lifestyle and a diverse range of historical activities in authentic settings.

Both within the rooms of Wolston Farmhouse and the surrounding gardens, students will participate in activities such as cooking, cleaning and washing just as it would have been conducted in colonial times.

Taking the outdoor classroom to another level, students will also have the opportunity to play traditional games popular in the nineteenth-century vintage lawn games.

At all times they will be supervised by their teachers and helpers but will be supported and guided through the experience by trained staff and volunteers. So whether you’re from Gold Coast, Brisbane, Ipswich or other surrounding suburbs join us for a school excursion.
