Heritage Festival 2020

Apr 18, 2020 – May 19, 2020

The National Trust has opened registrations for event organisers across the nation to participate in the Australian Heritage Festival in 2020 – the theme for next year is Our heritage for the future.

Councils, community groups, clubs, historical societies, libraries, museums, galleries, theatres, artists, businesses and enthusiasts for all aspects of heritage are invited to create and promote events that take place from 18 April to 19 May 2020.

The Australian Heritage Festival kicks off annually on International Day for Monuments and Sites and brings the community together to celebrate, learn, share knowledge and understand natural, cultural, living and built heritage. Last year saw hundreds of events take place across the country which attracted over 350,000 visitors.

The 2020 theme – Our heritage for the future – is an important theme as we consider how to translate, celebrate, share and protect our heritage for future generations. This is a festival that provides an opportunity for people to reflect. It provides people with an opportunity to gain an understanding for the rich and diverse culture we embrace as a nation. It provides the community an opportunity to appreciate and explore the unique natural landscapes, flora and fauna of Australia and pay our respects to Aboriginal heritage.
