Local Historian Peter Cullen presents the arrival and life of Katie Hume on the Downs between 1866 to 1885 through story and photographs.
Anna Kate Fowler (Katie) was born in London in 1838 to a well-to-do middle class family. At 26 years of age, she crossed the world to marry and live in colonial Queensland with her husband, Walter Hume. They settled in Drayton. Katie was an avid letter writer, with her letters now providing a record of what life was like back then on the Downs.
