Our Excursion Programs

Standard Tour

$6 per child 
For classes up to 30 students
Ideal durations – 2.5 to 3 hours

With this program the students are put into four groups to rotate through the activities.

  • Outside with Clothes Washing Activity
  • Morning Tea (student supplied)
  • Downstairs with a Song
  • Old Kitchen with a Mincer Activity

Hands-On Activities Tour

For classes over 30 students
Ideal durations – 3 to 3.5 hours

Our most popular program! Split children into two groups, with one visiting St Matthew’s Church and the other following program One at the Inn, then swap.

What Students Explore 

Our program is aligned with the Australian Curriculum History subject area for Year 2. Students explore key historical concepts including continuity and change, cause and effect, perspectives, empathy, and significance — all examined through the lens of the Royal Bull’s Head Inn.

While children study history in school, there’s no better way to make it engaging than a school excursion!

Heritage education is a crucial tool for students to connect with the past and immerse themselves in our rich cultural history.

Join us on a journey back in time to when the Royal Bull’s Head Inn in Drayton was the heart of the town. Our school program, aligned with the History curriculum, transports students to the 1800s, allowing them to explore, recognise, and appreciate the history of their local area through the study of historical artifacts and preservation.

Key Periods

  • 1847-1875: The Royal Bull’s Head Inn operated as a hotel and tavern.
  • 1879-1973: The Inn served as a family home and Post Office (until 1952).
  • 1973 to the present: Owned by the National Trust and operated as a museum.

  • The site’s role as a community hub throughout history (inn, post office, museum).
  • Technological changes over time (cooking, washing, transport).
  • The significance of museums and heritage places in our society, with a focus on individual and group contributions to Australian society (e.g., pioneers, explorers, pastoralists).
  • The development of colonial society and the Australian colonies, including the expansion of the Darling Downs and the growth of Drayton and Toowoomba.
